Project Details: In February thru April of 2007 NUC was contracted to assist in the removal of 3.6 million pounds of steel from the forebay of Lower Granite Dam. The BGS (Behavioral Guidance Structure) was originally designed to divert surface swimming fish away from the intakes at Lower Granite Dam thru a spillway located at the dam. After 10 years of service and research the BGS was removed. Diving was completed in 7 weeks and consisted of surface air and occasional mixed gas diving. The
majority of the diving consisted of underwater burning and rigging. The steel was cut, rigged and loaded onto barges and barged to the steel recycler.
NUC performed the work in accordance to USACE Walla Walla District standards with 0 loss time accidents and 0 downtime.
